2011 Y.O.R.M

What is the Purpose of the 2011 Year of Responsible Men

Each year governors, mayors, city council members and others show their support for worthy causes. Active engagement into these worthy causes, serve as encouragement to advocate, supports activities, recognizes issues, acknowledges history, and galvanizes people. In 2011 we proposed that public officials from the President to local legislators proclaim 2011; The Year of Responsible Men. This high level recognition will assist in targeting the need to encourage and support responsible fatherhood and mentoring. Our children are the most important elements of our society; so as we encourage the active participation of men; we ultimately seek to create healthier and loving families.

Why focus on Responsible Men?

Welfare reform provided an effective mechanism to build the capacity of mothers struggling to care for their children; absent their fathers. However in contrast it failed to address the service and support needs of fathers who would collapse under increase punitive policy and expectation to provide for their children; regardless of their ability to do so. This field of responsible fatherhood has made great strides in determining pathways to success for these men. In its work to engage in innovative service models; the field has posed itself not to make the same miscalculation of welfare reform by focusing on the fact that with children in mind, it is the entire family (mothers and fathers) that must be strengthen.

How can you become involved?

Fathers Incorporated has actively engaged in formally creating agreeable collaborations with civic, government, faith-based, corporate and philanthropic organizations. These memorandum of understandings will create a network of supports poised to create better environments for our nation’s children.
