TIES NEVER BROKEN CAMPAIGN APPEARS IN NEW VIDEO ON FATHERHOOD with TRAY CHANEY (The Wire)

Fathers Incorporated Gears Up to Support Power Down Campaign.

Raising Him Alone Campaign seeks to reduce the dependency of technology and media by increasing family time

Today, the Raising Him Alone Campaign, Urban Leadership and Fathers Incorporated are officially launching the Power Down Campaign! Power Down is a campaign focused on teaching parents strategies and coaching them to become better monitors of the technology used by their children. Parents who closely monitor and limit the time their child/teen spends playing video games, watching TV and surfing the Internet increase the likelihood that their child/teen will spend more time engaged in socially redeeming activities. FATHERS INCORPORATED AWARDED $7.4 MILLION TO MANAGE NATIONAL RESPONSIBLE FATHERHOOD CLEARINGHOUSE

President’s Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative and fatherhood.gov amongst projects

NEW YORK, NY, October 4, 2011– Fathers Incorporated (FI), a national not-for-profit has engaged in responsible fatherhood work on a national and international level since 2004. Recently the organization began a multi-year cause marketing campaign entitled “TIES NEVER BROKEN” to raise the visibility of both Responsible Fatherhood and Mentoring. We are proud to announce that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has awarded Fathers Incorporated $7.4 million (over a 3-year period; contingent on continued funding) to manage the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NRFC).

“This contract award allows FI to continue this critical work and great efforts of the White House, DHHS/OFA, and the National Fatherhood Initiative,” says Kenneth Braswell, Executive Director of Fathers Incorporated. “Our team will approach this body of work by integrating innovative marketing systems to inform and educate families. In this effort we hope for the work to evolve and become a mainstay for America’s fathers, families, and the field,” continues Braswell.

Fathers Incorporated and Partners to Address Recruitment during National Mentoring Month.

Mentoring remains to be one of our community’s most critical services. However according to Mentoring USA’s Executive Director; Stephen Powell, the number of available mentors are extremely low. In fact single parents, mostly mothers remain on long waiting lists, waiting to fill the gap in their children’s life left void by an absent father.

“We have been diligent at building the capacity of community agencies to deal with the impact of fatherlessness. Unfortunately the available resources don’t always match the urgent need,” say Kenneth Braswell, Executive Director of Fathers Incorporated. “This issue no more urgent than in the need to recruit African American men into formal mentoring programs.” MORE…

White House in Support of Fathers Incorporated “Ties Never Broken” Campaign

The First Annual Heritage Awards Dinner kicked off the successful initiation of the 2011: Year of Responsible Men (YORM) Campaign in support of the White House. During the event, several BLOCKBUSTER announcements regarding partnerships, events and initiatives, including proclamations from several major U.S. cities were made to encourage responsible fatherhood and mentoring. Special Assistant to the President and Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, Joshua DuBois, spoke. Honorees included John Amos, Geoffrey Canada (via video), and others. The dinner was hosted by Michelle Drayton, Publisher of Today’s Child Magazine and J-Will, host of Albany’s “JWill in the Morning” on Jamz 96.3 (Albany). The Keynote speaker for the event was Pastor Tre’ Staton of the Empire Christian Center and special remarks delivered by Dr. Jeff Gardere, America’s Psychologist and host of VH1’s Dads Camp.
